Is my Crystal OK or NOT OK in the Sun?

is my crystal ok in the sun

If you are fascinated with crystals like me, you should be aware of  how important it is to regularly cleanse and charge your crystals.

After cleansing negative energy from your crystals you should always follow up with a charging routine to re-energize the crystals to get the most out of their healing benefit.

Crystals charging is usually done by placing the crystals in your windows or anywhere where they can soak up the sun’s natural energy.

However some crystals are sensitive to the sun and may become damaged over time.

Here’s the list of crystals that can’t and can be put in direct sunlight

Crystals you should keep out of direct sunlight

Aventurine - A member of the quartz family and can fade in color.

Amethyst - A member of the quartz family. Color will fade in the sun since the color comes from the iron.

Citrine - Since it’s a form of quartz, it will fade to a clear color within 4 hours in the sun

Rose Quartz - Will fade in color in the sun.

Calcite - Can fade and get brittle in the sun.

Aquamarine - Direct sunlight will fade the blue to white if kept too long. Not water safe

Fluorite -  No more than 15 minutes in the sun as the colors will fade. Gets very hot, also not safe in water.

Smoky Quartz - Loses its color to become grey or brown

Clear Quartz - Can only withstand about 2 hours in the sun. Can get brittle and crack or break

Selenite -  long exposure to the sun rays for multiple hours (4 hours and plus) will eventually make Selenite look dull and faded.

The best and safer way to charge and cleanse your crystal friend at the same time is MOONLIGHT.  It doesn’t matter if it’s an overcast or rainy night either, the full moon energy is still able to provide a deep, strong, energizing gift to your crystals.

Place them on a windowsill, a table that will get some moon shine during the night, or just some place where the full moonlight can release what is no longer necessary in the crystals and energize and cleanse them.

Which crystals can be in the sun?

Sunstone - Orange stones are generally okay in the sun.

Lapis Lazuli - Lapis Lazuli does not fade in sunlight.

Jade - Jade is fine with sunlight, it will not fade the color.

Labradorite - Labradorite is generally known to be okay with light.

Howlite - No pigment color to fade.

Black Obsidian - Obsidian is actually black volcanic glass. Due to its dark color and glass composition, obsidian does not fade in sunlight and, in fact, it is often found naturally outdoors.

Black Tourmaline - Black Tourmaline is one of many crystals that can be in the sun. The energizing sun rays work on loading this black stone with a powerful burst of energy.

Moonstone - Charging your moonstones in direct sunlight is fine. They will likely dissolve in water though, so don't put them outside if it's going to rain.

Bloodstone - it has powerful grounding properties it will respond well to being placed under the sunlight

Tiger Eye - you can charge your tigers eye stones either by exposing them to the sun, or by using your own energy.

Extended periods of direct sunlight may cause deeply coloured crystals to fade over time.

The early morning sun is my favorite way of charging my crystals.

If you are new to the world of stones and are fascinated with their properties, it’s important to know how to treat and handle your crystals.
